In summer? Why now is the perfect time to start planning your strategy for the festive period.
While you’re sipping sangria and topping up your tan, we understand that Christmas is probably the furthest thing from your mind, particularly as a few months ago we thought summer was never going to come this year!
However, when it comes to festive holidays, it’s not just Father Christmas that has to start preparing early.
We’re not saying you should dig out your Santa jumpers just yet, but we would encourage you to think about arranging a meeting with your team to discuss objectives and set a budget for your seasonal campaigns, so you can start getting the ball rolling as early as possible. In the same way that many people begin their Christmas shopping early to get ahead of the game, from a business perspective, the earlier you start your preparations, the better.
As the first point of call, we always encourage our clients to review last year’s campaigns because this will help you decide what to focus on this year. It’s particularly important to look at what worked and what didn’t so you can avoid making the same mistakes. Your agency or marketing department will be able to advise you on the types of campaigns you could consider to help meet your objectives. For example, if you have only ever booked press advertising, then it might be worth looking into opportunities in radio, digital, outdoor or TV; there are many different avenues to explore and they can be more affordable than you might think!
When it comes to advertising, whether its press or radio, securing early placement is vital, particularly if you want to appear in prime positions or at prime times. Some businesses are unaware that publications have early booking deadlines, particularly in the lead up to December, because, like all of us, they like to get everything tied up early in preparation for the festive shutdown period. Therefore, if you are also planning to do some PR activity to work alongside your advertising, this needs to be organised well in advance to ensure you appear in the relevant features and publications.
Christmas is the perfect opportunity to do something a little bit different. So why not get inventive with your adverts and rethink the way you use your creative space? Instead of opting for a standard half page or quarter page advert, you could try a wrap, a banner or a fold out page. Alternatively, simply changing the orientation of your advert from landscape to portrait can completely change the look and feel of your advert. There is a variety of different options so we would advise you to speak to your agency to see what publications can offer.
Here at RB, we provide our clients with a wide range of services including media booking, traditional PR, design, social media management and crisis management. If you need some consultancy or help with your campaigns, please do get in touch. We would be happy to meet for a coffee to discuss your needs.
